Viral vectors used in gene therapy applications offer many advantages.
|
Back to In Vitro Testing
In particular, adenovirus vectors are highly efficient for gene transfer to most tissues, including nonreplicating cells; they produce high viral vector titers; there is no concern for malignancy induction in humans; and they have a tropism for respiratory epithelium, thus offering a possibility of aerosol delivery. However, the potential presence of replication competent adenovirus (RCA) in gene therapy products is of major concern to the regulatory agencies. The National Institute of Health (NIH) Recombinant DNA Advisory Committee requested that all investigators be able to demonstrate less than 1 RCA/human dose. BioReliance offers tests that are designed to detect the presence of human RCA in the test article that is a replication defective adenoviral vector.
