BioReliance offers both transmission and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) assays. Transmission electron microscopic (TEM) examination is used to determine the presence of viruses in biological fluids or within cells. EM methods enable characterization of cellular morphology of cultured cells and can be used to visualize and differentiate virus particles in cell cultures according to their morphology. By examining biological fluids, virus particles can be tabulated to estimate the viral load of the sample. It is essential to determine viral load before validating the ability of the purification process to inactivate or remove viral contaminants. Morphology of viral particles, as defined by EM, is one of the major criteria for classification of viruses.
BioReliance offer a range of routine assays for characterizing cells lines grown in culture and for quantification of purified virus preparations and of retroviruses in bulk harvest preparations. Customized assays can also be provided. |  | |
