Back to In Vivo Testing
As a minimum, the in vivo assays for inapparent viruses should be performed on master cell banks and the cells at the limit of in vitro cell age, although testing during other stages of biological product development can also be appropriate. The in vivo assays for the presence of adventitious viruses use a number of different animal systems to maximize the probability of detecting a virus in a test article. Those assays, however, are not designed to identify the viral contaminants once detected. Therefore, various animal systems are used. When an adventitious viral agent is detected, BioReliance consults with the client and a confirmatory procedure is performed.
